synopsis-

Lily Bloom was brought up in an abusive family, intoxicated with the pain of watching her mum suffer at her hands of her father. The only thing that soothed her pain was the love of the homeless boy next door, Atlas. As years pass Lily finds herself forgetting about Atlas and falling inlove with neurosurgeon Ryle. Paths begin to collide. Trust fades and the question emerges... who does it end with?

''There is no such things as bad people. We're all just people who sometimes do bad things''

''Sometimes its the person that loves you that hurts you the most''

Analysis

'It ends with us' is a very different genre from the normal historical and political novels I find myself indulging in, however, this book was worth stepping out of my comfort zone for. It ends with us has to be one of the best books I have ever read ( it may even be a tie with all the bright places.) Colleen Hoover's writing skills are phenomenal, the book was hard to put down however I also found myself trying to savor its unique beauty. No matter what Colleen Hoover writes about, her skills as an author will always leave you breathless.

It ends with us was full of romance the type profound to literature and the fiction world, with deep characterization which allows the reader to feel connected to Lily as if she was a friend, mother, or daughter. What's so heart-touching about this book is its roots in Colleens own life. Collen's Dad abused her mum so she refused for him to walk her down the aisle, whats so heart-touching is at the end of the novel when she admits that she wrote her Mum as the character of Lily. It ends with us is not just another love story it's a love story that goes beneath the skin and strikes pathos for the reader.

In terms of the plot, it was impossible to be bored. Ryle as a character was addictive to the point you wanted to hear more. At times the book did get explicit and heated however this added more depth to the characterization as we see the lovers' physical interactions as well as emotional. The use of allusions such as the ellen show as a substitute for a diary allowed the reader to create a sense of relatability with lily. With other characters such as Alyssa and Marshal, we see this dichotomy between different relationships to highlight the toxicity of others in the narrative ( promise I'm trying my best not to give it away).

Colleen Hoover's ' It ends with us' is the most beautiful book I have ever read. There's an incredibly powerful message in this book that is very subtly woven in from the start. It is so powerful and subtly planted that Lily herself does not notice it either ,this allows the reader to create a relationship with her as together we uncover the strength of her femininity. This book is not just another romance nor another far-fetched fiction novel - It is weighted in ideological significance. It ends with us teaches us that 'cycles exist because they are excruciating to break' but once we do, we are exposed to the vitality of love. If I could give a book more than 5 stars I would give this one the whole galaxy!
